Google Ads reveals when AI rewrites your product titles
A new Product titles report lets advertisers see the AI-generated title Google served instead of theirs, and compare its performance. It does not let them turn the swap off.

Google Ads has a new Product titles report that shows advertisers exactly which product titles its AI is generating and serving in Shopping ads, and how those titles perform against the version the advertiser wrote.

Google's Shopping AI has been able to swap in a customized product title when it judges that version more relevant than the advertiser's original, but advertisers previously had no way to see when that happened. The original title survives: Google still serves it whenever it considers that version the stronger match.
The new report puts the AI-generated title and the advertiser's original side by side, then attaches performance data to both. It includes impressions, product clicks, click-through rate, cost, and average CPC, so advertisers can compare how their own copy performs against the version Google's model chose to write.
What it does not do
The report is visibility, not control. Search Engine Land's writeup names no setting that lets an advertiser block AI-generated titles outright or approve one before it runs. The only lever the source describes is Google's own judgment about which version is more relevant, and that judgment still sits with Google. Advertisers can see the swap and grade its performance after the fact. Whether they can stop it before it reaches a shopper is left open.
That is the same shape as the title and messaging overrides already being fought over in AI Overviews and in ChatGPT: the platform decides what the customer sees, and the brand finds out after the fact. Here it happens inside a paid placement, which the advertiser is billed for regardless of whose title ran.
The update was first spotted by performance marketer Yash Mandlesha on LinkedIn, and Search Engine Land confirmed it is beginning to roll out inside Google Ads.
Frequently asked questions
Can advertisers turn off Google's AI-generated product titles?+
The source does not say. It describes Google serving the advertiser's original title when Google itself judges that version more relevant, but names no setting that lets an advertiser opt out or approve a title before it runs.
What performance data does the Product titles report show?+
Impressions, product clicks, click-through rate, cost, and average CPC, reported for both the AI-generated title and the advertiser's original.
How does Google decide which title to show?+
The source says only that Google generates a customized title when it determines that version is more relevant than the advertiser's original. It gives no further detail on how relevance is judged.
