The deal

Nvidia is negotiating an investment in Perplexity at a valuation above $30 billion, The Information reports. That is more than 50 percent higher than Perplexity's last funding round a year ago.
Perplexity's annualized revenue has tripled from $250 million to over $750 million, driven in part by "Perplexity Computer," an AI agent for automated tasks. The revenue jump likely ties to the higher token consumption that agentic AI demands.
From acqui-hire talk to investment
Nvidia had previously considered an acqui-hire to bring in Perplexity's technology and staff. It is negotiating a straight investment now. In March, Perplexity joined Nvidia's Nemotron Coalition, which promotes open AI models as a counterweight to Chinese development efforts. Perplexity has raised more than $1.7 billion to date, and CEO Aravind Srinivas is considering an IPO around 2028, according to CNBC.
One of several bets
This continues a run of similar Nvidia deals across the AI industry. It has already backed Poolside, Groq at $20 billion and Enfabrica at $900 million. Much of that money cycles back to Nvidia as chip revenue when portfolio companies buy hardware, so the size of a valuation is not by itself a clean read on how the market values the company.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Perplexity is where buyers ask a question and get a direct, sourced answer. A tripling in annualized revenue, driven by an AI agent product layered on top of search, is a growth signal for the citation surface itself. For anyone doing citation work, that keeps Perplexity worth measuring alongside Google and ChatGPT.
